Enjoying a wonderful church life

While I was still not yet born, my mother got sick with rubella. This illness caused me to become deaf from birth. Daily she faithfully prayed for me and gave me to the Lord. I grew up in a large hearing Christian family as the only deaf child. At first, I was put into a deaf classroom in a hearing school. But eventually I was mainstreamed in a hearing school. Being in a loving Christian home I grew up knowing the Bible and about Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord. One day when I was 9 years old, my mother and a Sunday school teacher took me aside privately and asked me if I wanted to receive the Lord Jesus into my life. I told them “yes” and I prayed to receive the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. I experience a wonderful joy inside me and the world was so beautiful to me. One day I told my mother I wanted to help deaf to know about Jesus.

While I loved to read the Bible I had hard time understanding the church services and the pastor in our church. I tried my best to sit at front and try to read his lips but I could not understand a word he said. This bothered and disappointed me a lot. Happened one day my parents decided they would leave that denomination and meet with local church in oneness. Where? in our home town. A small group of Christians started to meet together in my parents’ house and so it was easy for me to join the meetings. It was so enjoyable and I could understand everyone. We sang, prayed, called on the name of the Lord and spoke Christ to one another. I enjoyed it so much.

One day I was bored so I looked at my father’s bookshelf for something to read and there I found the Life-study of Revelation by Witness Lee. I grabbed them and read the book and it completely changed my understanding of the Bible. During my mainstream high school years I suffered a lot of teasing from my classmates because I was deaf. I was frustrated very much and felt angry about it. But with the brothers and sisters in the church life helped me to enjoy the Lord and accept who I am in Christ. They just simply ministered Christ to me and they helped and cared for me in a wonderful way. They helped me to turn to the Lord and trust in His rich supply of life to help me through my struggles as a deaf person when I was in high school and later at university. Also through the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee (two Christian authors from China) I was very much helped to understand about God’s plan for the Church and how to experience and enjoy Christ as my life every day. Their ministry has helped me a lot throughout the years.

Today, I enjoy meeting with the church in Austin, TX. Here we enjoy Christ and fellowship in our homes, and in small groups of two or three to pray and fellowship with one another. It not matter if you are deaf or hearing, we are all one in Christ. Here we only minister Christ to one another and help one another. In church life we minister Christ to deaf and hearing believers both in church meetings and in our homes. Praise the Lord I thank Him for the wonderful church life. Amen.
